Dolland and Aitchison

The name of one of the oldest optician chains in the UK has sadly disappeared from the High Street after trading for 250 years. Established in London in 1750 by Peter Dolland as makers of optical instruments, the Dolland and Aitchison company had 400 outlets spread across the United Kingdom.

They are merged with Boots Opticians in 2009 with the last of the shops refitted in 2015 under the Boots Opticians brand. The merge means that there are now over 690 outlets employing over 5000 staff and is said to be the second largest Optician brand in the UK after Specsavers.
